These are the words inscribed at the entrance of the Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy. They symbolize the direction our institute seeks to pursue.

Guided by the principles of our founder and honorary chairman, Chung Eui-sung, and through the concerted efforts of successive generations of highly competent staff, KIMS has firmly established itself as Korea’s foremost research institution in the fields of maritime strategy and maritime security. Recent changes in the political, economic, military, social, scientific and technological dimensions of the security environment, however, present us with a new set of challenges.

As the seventh President of the Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy, I intend to respond to these changes by advancing our institute under four guiding visions: “Proactive KIMS,” “Global KIMS,” “Digital KIMS,” and “Younger KIMS.”
