Welcome to the Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy
Since the dawn of human civilization, the sea has served as a vital conduit for human progress, and nations that have made effective use of the sea have risen to prominence throughout history. Yet, despite being surrounded by the sea on three sides, Korea has not fully realized its boundless potential. The Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy was established in 1997 to develop maritime policies and strategies for the future of the Republic of Korea.
The era of globalization, characterized by reconciliation and peace, has given way to an age of division. The world now, more than ever, needs increased cooperation to keep maritime peace and order. As political and economic tensions among nations intensify, safeguarding maritime sovereignty, securing maritime domains, and strengthening maritime security have become increasingly important.
In this time of profound change, the Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy remains committed to carrying forward the vision of our founder and honorary chairman by continuing to develop sound maritime policies and strategies. Through these efforts, we seek to contribute both to Korea’s advancement and to international peace.
