On May 29, 2025, the 17ᵗʰ International Seapower Symposium (ISS) was held at the Signiel Hotel Busan. The ISS is a biannual international conference hosted by the ROK Navy since 1989, and the Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy (KIMS) has been a long partner co-hosting the event. Under the title of “Free and Open Seas: Navigating Toward Coexistence and Prosperity”, numerous maritime experts from around the world attended the event, including ADM (ret.) Harry B. Harris Jr., former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea. VADM (ret.) Tae-ho Won, President of the KIMS, gave welcoming remarks before the audience, and emphasized the implications and importance of this event in his speech.
