On October 11, 2024, the Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy jointly hosted a Conference on Maritime Security titled “National Maritime Security Policy and Action Plan in Global Maritime Power Competition Era” at the Korea Press Center. Five institutes – KIMS, Jeju Peace Institute, Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, Korea maritime Institute, and ROK Naval War College – co-organized this event, and many related experts inside and outside of co-hosts participated in both as moderators, presenters, and commentators, including former foreign affairs minister Park Jin and former unification minister Hyun In-taek as keynote speakers.
Dr. Sam-man Chung, director of KIMS, moderated the second session titled “Change of International Security Environment and ROK’s Maritime Strategy,” and Sungmin Cho at Sungkyunkwan University, Jaewoo Jun at Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, and Jae Woo Joo at Kyunghee Univeristy took part in the session as main speakers and had in-depth Q&A and discussions relating to the topic.
