Introduction
The sea has always played a crucial role in the history of mankind. For centuries, it has been bridging cultures and civilizations, providing routes for various forms of human and material exchanges. It also represents a natural source of vital raw material. The sea has always been with us and will continue to play an important part of our lives. And that is why it constitutes an inseparable element of national security. 
 
Korea is a maritime nation. What happens at sea is bound to impact our future. Hence, there must be a robust policy and strategy that helps us better understand, manage and protect the sea for a better tomorrow. The Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy stands ready to buttress this effort and thereby contribute to the nation’s continued growth and security.
